Agreement
These terms apply to your use of Murmur, a desktop application that converts speech into typed text. By installing or using it, you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the application.
Licence
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Murmur on computers you own or control. You may not redistribute, resell, rent out, decompile or reverse engineer the application, or remove any notices from it, except where such restrictions are prohibited by law.
Murmur is distributed through the Microsoft Store, and that store's own terms also govern your acquisition of it.
Third-party components
Murmur includes open source components, including the speech recognition engine and the speech recognition model, each under its own licence. The licence texts are included with the application.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use Murmur:
- To record any person without whatever consent the law where you are requires.
- For any purpose that is unlawful where you are.
- In a way that interferes with the normal operation of other people's systems.
You are responsible for what you dictate and for where you insert the resulting text.
Accuracy
Speech recognition is inherently imperfect. Murmur may mishear words, punctuate differently than you intended, or produce nothing at all in noisy conditions or with unfamiliar terminology. Always review dictated text before relying on it, and do not use Murmur as the sole means of producing text where an error would be costly, such as in medical, legal or financial records.
Your data
Murmur processes audio and text entirely on your computer and collects nothing. See the Privacy Policy for detail. Because your settings and the downloaded model live only on your machine, keeping backups of anything you care about is your responsibility.
Availability
The speech recognition model is downloaded on first run from a third-party public host. We do not control that service and cannot guarantee it will remain reachable. Without the model, the application cannot transcribe.
No warranty
Murmur is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for any loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of or inability to use Murmur. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the application.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you, and nothing here affects consumer rights you have by law.
Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time. The current version is always the one on this page, dated above. Continuing to use Murmur after a change means you accept the updated terms.
